George Kittle said what no Seahawks or Patriots fan wanted to hear

How rude.

The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers aren't friends, at least not on the field. Before two recent games, some Seattle players, such as Uchenna Nwosu, were outspoken about their dislike for the team to the south. This is how football works, of course.

One of the more outspoken 49ers is tight end George Kittle. To be sure, his production deserves to be respected. He has been one of the best players at his position for years, and he has often been a thorn in the Seahawks' side. He isn't a fan of Seattle, but he isn't a fan of any team but his own. Fair enough.

When speaking with NBC Sports Bay Area recently, he was asked about his rehab from a torn Achilles tendon he suffered in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs (he will be fine, by the way), but was also asked if he was going to watch the Super Bowl. His wife, Claire, standing nearby, seemed more interested in watching the game.

49ers' George Kittle delivers his truth about the Seattle Seahawks playing the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl

George Kittle said he might be busy playing video games. Maybe he does, and he has that right. After all, he plays football for a living, and he is under no obligation to watch the sport when he isn't playing. But he offered another reason why he might not watch.

The tight end said, "I hope both teams lose."

Oddly, it was the Patriots who appeared to have caught a stray with the statement. Kittle not wanting an NFC West rival to win the championship is one thing. No one wants a team in their own division to win the Super Bowl. What Kittle has against the Patriots is anyone's guess.

One thing is certain, though. Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is living rent-free in San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's head. Shanahan has had elite-level success offensively against most teams, but not Macdonald in 2025. Seattle's defense completely shut down the 49ers, no matter who was healthy enough to play.

Seattle also got to celebrate being the top seed in the NFC after beating the 49ers in Santa Clara in Week 18. Seahawks players smoked cigars in the visitors' locker room, and Kittle said he understood the gesture.

Hopefully, he understands the gesture once again if the Seahawks take out cigars in the 49ers stadium's visitors' locker room again after the Super Bowl. The game is being played at the home of the 49ers, Levi's Stadium, and Seattle is considered the visitor for the title game.
