Whether it's with the Seattle Seahawks or elsewhere (unless they franchise tag him), Kenneth Walker III is going to cash in this summer. Unfortunately, it's looking more and more likely that Walker will test the free-agent market and move on from Seattle after a remarkable 2025 playoff run capped by winning Super Bowl MVP.
It may have been Walker's playoff performances alone that solidified him as a top free agent target for teams looking to upgrade at the running back position, because for at least the first half of last season, the Seahawks didn't use Walker in the same manner they did in the second half and beyond.
Nevertheless, Walker will officially be a free agent next week, and if the Seahawks can't work out a deal (or if Walker intends to walk and not negotiate with Seattle at all), who would be interested in signing him?
A handful of teams, of course, but the latest team to emerge in the Walker conversations is one where the spotlight is much greater than in Seattle, but the team there could really benefit from a solid back like Walker.
Giants emerge as 'very interested' buyers of Seattle Seahawks' playoff hero, Kenneth Walker III
From one far West Coast city to a far East Coast city would be Walker's reality if the reports are true out of New York — the Giants are keeping their eyes on Walker in free agency. John Harbaugh, who was named the team's new head, has a young, talented team in front of him with Jaxon Dart as the quarterback.Â
Walker might be the perfect fit behind Dart, especially given that he is going into just his second NFL season and will be without Cam Scattebo to start the season, meaning the Giants need someone to fill the hole and then play alongside the energetic rusher once he returns.Â
Harbaugh just spent the past two seasons with future Hall of Famer, Derek Henry, who appears to be defying Father Time even still. Walker is no Henry, but he is a hard runner who can do a lot of damage if used in a game plan that heavily focuses on running the ball. Again, Harbaugh comes right from this scheme type with the Baltimore Ravens.Â
If anyone can get the most out of Walker, and more than he did with the Seahawks, it may very well be Harbaugh. According to SNYtv’s Connor Hughes, who covers both the Giants and the Jets in New York, the blue team is 'very interested' in signing Walker, which could mean a big payday for the four-year rusher.
"Whether they land a player such as Seattle’s Kenneth Walker or Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love remains to be seen, but expect a strong push for established free agent options, including Walker and others. Love is among the prospects they are expected to discuss deeper into the draft process."
Love is the now-former hotly-touted running back of the Fighting Irish, who also happens to be on the radar of the Kansas City Chiefs, who are also looking to significantly improve their running back group.Â
Whether the Giants actually land Walker or not, the Seahawks will nevertheless enter the hunt to replace him, while backup rusher Zach Charbonnett recovers from an ACL tear. The Seahawks will have options, whether in free agency, via trade, or, if they prefer the draft-and-develop method, by drafting someone.
As for Walker, he's going to cash in no matter what, but may find himself in a similar situation with the Giants as part of a two-headed rushing threat like he was with the Seahawks. Whether he wants that or not, time will tell.Â
