The Seattle Seahawks will be missing rookie running back Jadarian Price in Week 4 after he aggravated a chest injury in practice leading up to the game against the Los Angeles Chargers. What that means for the running back room isn't necessarily good.
Zach Charbonnet isn't ready to return yet after he suffered a knee injury in last season's playoffs. He could be ready by Week 5, as the team opened the 21-day window for his return this week, but that only means he cannot help immediately with Price out.
This clearly means that George Holani and Emanuel Wilson need to step up. Velus Jones Jr. and Jacardia Wright are on the practice squad, and one or both could be elevated against the Chargers. Both have gotten some reps before and should be fine, though not nearly as explosive as Price.
Seattle Seahawks won't have Jadarian Price available in Week 4
Wright is dealing with an injury, too, so he isn't likely to play. The running back rotation could be Wilson, then Holani, then Jones. But offensive coordinator Brian Fleury could also throw a wrinkle into the situation. Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed has lined up in the backfield before and could do so more in Week 4.
That might help keep Los Angeles off balance while also getting more opportunities for Shaheed to get the ball. He has underwhelmed in the passing attack so far after re-signing this past offseason for three years and $51 million. He is an explosive player as well, but has done that more on special teams than on offense since he was traded to the Seahawks in the middle of last season.
The hope is that Seattle won't be forced to decide to go pass-heavy against the Chargers. Quarterback Sam Darnold is capable of brilliance, but any offense being obvious in the NFL is likely doomed ot failure. Seattle needs to be able to run the ball.
Through the first three games of 2026, Jadarian Price leads the team in rushing yards (119) and is second behind wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba in total yards (like, way behind), but his production hasn't been so high that he can't be replaced. The question is whether those running backs behind him can replace him.
Emanuel Wilson had a solid game in Week 1, but he tired at the end. Can he stay fit for an entire game? Can George Holani stay healthy and productive for an entire game? Week 5 could look much better if Zach Charbonnet is back then, but that won't help this Sunday.
