The Seattle Seahawks have the most complete team in the NFL, arguably. Furthermore, as far as who's starting at their position, the Seahawks may have the best crop of starters across the league as well, give or take a position or two.
What the Seahawks also have are players lower down in the depth chart that everyone knows have talent but haven't had the opportunity, or a significant opportunity, to shine just yet. George Holani at running back, Elijah Arroyo at tight end, and Rylie Mills at defensive end are just a few examples of young, talented players waiting for their time.
It's always a good problem to have for any team when the depth of talent goes far beyond just the primary starters, or even the backups. This is the life for Jake Bobo, currently listed as the Seahawks' No. 4 wide receiver on their depth chart. That said, what Bobo has shown thus far, and what he could show further this next season, might open the door up for his future in Seattle.
Jake Bobo could put the pressure on the Seattle Seahawks to move on from Cooper Kupp
An open door for Bobo to move up unfortunately means that a spot became available, and that's where Cooper Kupp comes into the picture, or, out of it. All things considered, Kupp carries a ton of value for the Seahawks. Not only is his veteran leadership and Super Bowl experience an asset, but Kupp still produces. While his numbers decreased last season, his value at wide receiver did not.Â
Kupp can and will still produce for the Seahawks on offense next season behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba at the No. 2 wide receiver spot. That being said, Kupp's future in Seattle has nothing to do with his production, good or bad. Kupp isn't getting any younger, and the Seahawks have a lot of talent at wide receiver, like Bobo.Â
If the Seahawks move on from Kupp next offseason, Bobo could have something to do with it. As it stands, Bobo is behind not just Smith-Njigba and Kupp, but also Rashid Shaheed, who is expected to take on a much more significant role as a pass catcher in his second season in Seattle.
Shaheed's increased role likely pushes Bobo down a little further, but that doesn't mean he won't get his opportunities.Â
Last season saw Bobo's worst production in all three NFL seasons, but he only played in 11 games. Bobo has the talent, but has yet to be elevated, or, rather, elevate himself. With Kupp's future uncertain, now is the time for Bobo to make a run, and it starts in training camp.
The undrafted Seahawks fan-favorite will likely make the roster cut again, and with the opportunities he receives thereafter, Bobo has to execute.Â
Bobo can make himself into another reason why the Seahawks deem it reasonable to move on from Kupp after this season. Carving out a role in training camp and, if he gets chances to play in preseason, coming through on them are his best chances. Kupp won't feel any pressure from Bobo, but Bobo should view it as such.Â
