Just two games in and Josh Jobe has proved he should start for the Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks came into their Week 2 contest versus the Steelers severly shorthanded in the secondary. Josh Jobe took the field and said, "No problem, I got it." And did he ever have it.

With Nick Emmanwori out for Week 2, Seattle's defense had to feel a bit pressured. But when it was announced that Devon Witherspoon would be out as well, I'm sure most 12s broke out their lucky rabbit's foot and kissed their four-leaf clover. Things did not look promising for the secondary, especially considering that Aaron Rodgers threw for four touchdowns last week.

As it turned out, the Seahawks' defense was just fine. Riq Woolen was a question mark coming into the game. That wasn't due to his health, but his horrendous performance in Week 1. We'll talk about Woolen another day. Today, the spotlight belongs to the four-year veteran, Mr. Joshua Jobe.

Josh Jobe played like an All-Pro in Week 2 for the Seattle Seahawks

With Witherspoon out, Jobe was virtually guaranteed a starting nod. After his game today, he's never coming out of the starting lineup. First, let's look back at his game in Week 1 versus the Niners. Sure, Seattle took the loss, but Jobe certainly did all he could to earn the win.

He was targeted five times, but allowed just one completion, that for one - yes, one - yard. He also had that beautiful pick of Brock Purdy that shut down a San Francisco drive in the fourth quarter.

That performance earned Jobe a coverage grade of 90.2 from Pro Football Focus (subscription required). Incidentally, that also resulted in a passer rating allowed of 0.0. Basically, the other team's QB would have been better off never getting off the bench.

Jobe came close to matching that today versus the Steelers. Well, maybe not that close. I mean, he did allow a seven-yard completion. And he didn't have an interception this week. What a slacker, right? Then again, that seven-yard connection was the only one he allowed on four targets.

On that completion, he gave up just one yard after the catch. He was credited with forcing an incompletion as well. His passer rating allowed was just 39.6. That led the Seahawks for the second straight week.

As for DK Metcalf's big revenge game, Jobe wasn't having it. Metcalf dropped a pair of passes, but did manage three receptions. Two were on - you guessed it, Riq Woolen - and the third was a touchdown reception against Coby Bryant. That's okay, Bryant got his own re4venge, as he picked off Aaron Rodgers late in the fourth quarter.

As for Jobe, no one can doubt he's the starting corner on one side of the field now. When Spoon returns, Jobe will stay on, and Derion Kendrick should join them as the third corner. It may have taken him a few years, but for now, Josh Jobe is playing like one of the best corners in the league.
