The Seattle Seahawks are doing everything in their power to grind out a win against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, and that task may have gotten even harder now that wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is reportedly working through an ailment that could sideline him for the rest of the game.
Smith-Njigba was seen limping on the sideline midway through the third quarter after catching a short pass from Sam Darnold. The broadcast reported that Smith-Njigba is being evaluated for a concussion, which could potentially rule him out for the remainder of the game.
Smith-Njigba went into the blue medical tent, which is not what Seahawks fans want to see as they try to grind out a win in what has been a low-scoring slobberknocker of a game. Smith-Njigba went into the locker room after that stint, which is about the last thing Seattle wanted to see.
Seattle Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba leaves Super Bowl LX with concussion
Smith-Njigba has been targeted nine times, but he only has three catches for 24 yards to his name. Outside of one big slant pass that went for 16 yards, his touches have been limited to quick hitters with precious little in the way of big plays down the field.
The one opportunity he had to break this game wide open came in the first quarter, as he got behind the defense on a busted play. However, with Sam Darnold under pressure, his throw was rushed and sailed too far over JSN's head, erasing the potential of a big play.
Cooper Kupp, who already has one Super Bowl MVP under his belt, has been the biggest playmaker in the Seattle passing game to this point, catching four passes for 44 yards. He and trade acquisition Rashid Shaheed, who has just one catch in this game, will be called into action if Smith-Njigba is down.
JSN has been integral to what the Seahawks have done on offense all season long, and it looks like they may need to play their most important quarter of the season with their most important offensive skill position player on the mend.
