With the NFL Draft and spring workouts already in the books, most rosters are set and have a clear pecking order. Others, however, might still want to consider a big move at the most crucial position in sports.

San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Mac Jones has drawn some trade buzz in recent weeks. Teams like the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals have ongoing complex situations at quarterback, and he might be a solid stopgap solution.

While that normally shouldn't move the needle for the Seattle Seahawks, Mike Macdonald's team should probably root for a trade. If anything, that would leave the 49ers with a somewhat worse option in Brock Purdy.

The Seattle Seahawks should rather face Brock Purdy over Mac Jones

Mike Macdonald's defense should love its chances against any of the 49ers' quarterbacks. However, if they had to choose, they'd probably rather face Purdy. He may have a 6-3 record against Seattle, but he's struggled mightily without a myriad of All-Pros by his side, and Jones has more arm talent and a more cerebral game.

In nine career games vs. the Seahawks -- including playoffs -- he's passed for 2,04 yards, 14 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a 98.7 passer rating. That's not half bad, but the tides are finally shifting in the Seahawks' favor.

Purdy was 1-2 against the Seahawks last season, and his team scored a grand total of nine points in those losses. The 49ers won 17-13 in the season opener, with Purdy completing 26 of 35 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Then, he completed 19 of 21 passes for 127 yards and one interception in the regular season finale, and was even more atrocious in the NFC Divisional Round with 140 passing yards and one pick on 27 attempts.

Purdy's Linsanity run might finally be over. He was a great story as a former Mr. Irrelevant making the most of a series of unfortunate events to become a starter, but he was the last pick of the NFL Draft for a reason -- or several reasons.

Of course, this doesn't mean that he's not an NFL-caliber quarterback, but he's clearly holding Kyle Shanahan's team back. He might be comfortable in his system, but he's also pretty much a finished product, and he has only thrived when everything has gone his way -- he hasn't been the reason they've won a game.

Even with the Los Angeles Rams' latest moves, the Seahawks should be considered the team to beat in the NFC West. And if the 49ers want to get rid of their best quarterback to remain committed to their weakest link, so be it.
