The Seattle Seahawks have done a sneaky, brilliant job of turning their roster over the last few years. While the team hasn't made the playoffs in the last couple of seasons, Seattle also hasn't been a bad team. Mike Macdonald's squad won 10 games in 2024, the only team with that many victories not to make the playoffs.
But the team could be dealing with some attrition this coming offseason. Many key players are finishing their rookie deals this year, and the team has to decide who to try to keep among a group that includes running back Kenneth Walker, cornerback Riq Woolen, edge rusher Boye Mafe, and others.
One player in his third season with Seattle might need to go, too. The team has a young roster, and sticking around for three seasons oddly makes Jake Bobo a longtime member of the roster. Many players, even veterans like DeMarcus Lawrence, are in their first or second season with Seattle.
Seattle Seahawks might have to say goodbye to Jake Bobo after the 2025 season
Bobo has been a fan favorite since the Seahawks signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He has been a good blocker, a valuable member on special teams, and, at times, a good wide receiver. That last part has seemingly passed, however.
This season, Bobo only has two targets. He has caught both of them for 20 yards, but no touchdowns, and no more than one target in any game. He also has seen a decline in snaps on offense, getting 18 per game in his first two seasons, but only 11 in 2025.
He has also been less effective on special teams. In seven games, Bobo has been called for three penalties. That cannot continue. He has also only made one tackle, and that didn't come until Week 12 against the Tennessee Titans.
Jake Bobo would still be a fantastic player to have on the team, and he keeps a positive energy in the locker room, but the Seahawks also have to revamp their wide receiver group. As great as Jaxon Smith-Njigba is, he cannot continue being the only receiver getting many targets.
Cooper Kupp is under contract in 2026 and should stick. Rashid Shaheed is a free agent. Rookie Tory Horton flashed explosiveness, but he has also been hurt. Seattle has to get faster at wideout, and that might push Bobo off the team.
Would it be sad to see him go? Of course, but the NFL is a difficult business, and the Seattle Seahawks might be forced to try to find a more productive wideout than Jake Bobo. He is a free agent after this season, so seeing him playing in a different uniform might become a reality.
