The Seattle Seahawks enter the 2026 season as the defending Super Bowl champions. Even just typing that still feels like a dream. They'll have their work cut out for them to defend their championship title, but fortunately, Mike Macdonald now knows how to get his team to the biggest stage in the sport.
A former head coach who knows all about Super Bowls and what it takes to get there is former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. The Steelers and Tomlin parted ways this offseason after 19 years together, but he's still very much in the football scene.
Tomlin recently appeared on The Dan Patrick Show and was asked what advice he'd give Macdonald after climbing the NFL mountain and trying to do so again in 2026.

"I think the number one thing is the journey. I think sometimes when you've been to the destination, and particularly when you've been to the destination recently, you want to hurry up and cut to the chase and you absolutely can't. And so he's got to take his team through the process again," Tomlin said. "He's got to do the best that he can to wipe the slate clean and make sure they appreciate the present and the journey that they're on right now... There's a lot of outside forces to be quite honest with you that's going to be helpful in that regard. I think the Rams are getting so much positive attention. I think it's going to be an asset to him in terms of getting his group's attention in that regard."
Simply put, Macdonald can't be satisfied with what the team did last year, and he has to spread that message to this year's squad. Last year was last year; this year is this year. Tomlin said it perfectly when he used the term "wipe the slate clean" because that's exactly what Seattle needs to do.
As soon as the players reported to training camp, a new season was underway, and what happened last year was officially in the past.
Another interesting component here was when Tomlin touched on how much praise the Los Angeles Rams are getting this offseason. It does feel like the Rams are the darlings of the league, despite the Seahawks not only winning the Super Bowl but also beating L.A. to get to the big game. Where's their praise?
Oh well, at the end of the day, Seattle came out on top and is hoping to do so again in 2026. Tomlin's advice to Macdonald is also good advice for the Seahawks fan base as well. Yes, this team has been to the promised land and is the defending champs, but 2026 is a new season, and that means the mission resets. Get back to the Super Bowl and win the whole dang thing once again.
