The Seattle Seahawks finished with a 10-7 record last season; however, they missed out on the postseason after losing a tiebreaker to the Los Angeles Rams. They made several changes to the offense in the offseason as six of their top nine leaders, including Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett, will not be back in 2025.
While Smith had earned two Pro Bowl appearances in his three seasons as a starter, the franchise chose to invest in Sam Darnold. Seattle traded Smith and signed Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million deal with $55 million in guaranteed money.
The Seahawks have entirely revamped their quarterback room. In addition to swapping Smith out for Darnold, Seattle also brought Drew Lock back and drafted Jalen Milroe. Despite the additions, the unit was recently ranked as a bottom-ten group across the league.
Seattle Seahawks QB room ranked among the league's worst
The Seahawks will enter 2025 with the opportunity to compete for a divisional crown. The quarterback play figures to play a significant role in the results; however, Seattle's unit was recently ranked among the league's worst.
Saad Yousuf of The Athletic suggested that Seattle has one of the worst quarterback groups in the league:
"If Darnold’s 2024 season was the start of a career revival instead of a fluke, he could elevate the Seahawks out of this ranking. But it remains to be seen if Darnold can be successful without Kevin O’Connell and Justin Jefferson. Lock isn’t a terrible option for a game or two, as evidenced by his big Week 17 performance for the Giants last season, but if Darnold reverts back to his pre-Minnesota days, the Seahawks won’t have anywhere good to turn at the position."
Seattle's ranking as one of the league's worst quarterback units is somewhat of a surprise after the major upgrades to the unit in 2025. The addition of Darnold will certainly be pivotal to the franchise's chances of competing for a title.
The unit has proven they are among the league's best; however, the 2024 Pro Bowler threw for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last season. He completed 66.2 percent of his pass attempts while adding 212 yards and one touchdown on 67 carries.
Seattle appears poised to make a major jump in 2025; however, their quarterback unit has received plenty of criticism heading into the offseason. Darnold's play will likely determine the outcome of the season; however, the wide receiver unit has proven that they have the ability to take the Seahawks to the next level.
