The Seattle Seahawks need Nick Emmanwori. He proved in the second half of last season and in the playoffs just how important he can be. His versatility makes head coach Mike Macdonald's defense more unique. But he won't participate at the start of training camp, most likely.
That is because, ahead of camp beginning on July 25, Emmanwori was placed on the physically unable to perform list. The positive part is that he can come off the PUP list at any point, and entering his second season, he no longer needs to show what skills he has that will augment the defense. The coaching staff knows what they can get from him.
Besides Emmanwori, Seattle also placed running back Kenny McIntosh and cornerback Tyrone Broden on PUP. The latter two dealt with injuries in 2025 (McIntosh hasn't been consistently healthy for all of his career), so their missing time isn't surprising.
Seattle Seahawks star Nick Emmanwori expected to start training camp on PUP
Also of note, Emmanwori didn't miss time during organized team activities and minicamp, so whatever is ailing him is likely temporary. He might spend a day or three on PUP and then be activated. What would be far more worrisome is if he was hurt during camp or the preseason and then placed on PUP. Entering camp on the list without a known injury is probably a reason not to worry.
Of course, on the flipside, maybe between OTAs and training camp, something happened with Nick Emmanwori. Seattle Seahawks might still be feeling some PTSD from a decade ago when Malik McDowell, a second-round pick in 2017, was injured in an ATV accident, and that affected the rest of his career.
McDowell made a poor personal decision to put himself in harm's way. Emmanwori doesn't seem to have that same kind of personality.
While the team will likely have more information about the nature of the defensive back's injury, one likely shouldn't panic yet. If the Seahawks announce some new injury concern with Nick Emmanwori, then yes, feel free to panic.
Also of note, and in a positive way, wide receiver Tory Horton wasn't placed on PUP. This implies the explosive wide receiver will be ready to practice fully in training camp. He could be a hidden gem among the wide receiver corps after scoring six touchdowns in just eight games as a rookie. A healthy Horton is a huge boon to the offense overall.
