One name keeps popping up for the Seattle Seahawks in 2025 NFL mock drafts
By Lee Vowell
The Seattle Seahawks are certainly going to have some needs to address in the 2025 NFL draft. This includes the interior of the offensive line, likely an inside linebacker, potentially a safety, and maybe a receiver, depending on what Tyler Lockett decides to do or what the team decides to do with Lockett. But in the first round, Seattle could simply choose to take the best player available.
Let's just hope that is not a running back, though. 12s know that Seattle has overdrafted running backs in recent years. Even if they are talented, they have been wasted behind Seattle's poor offensive line.
Instead, Seattle might go with an edge rusher or cornerback in round one. Head coach Mike Macdonald finally has his defense about where he wants and the team is winning because of that defense. The offense has struggled, especially in the red zone recently, but there is talent at the skill positions, so the hope is things will turn around.
Georgia's Jalon Walker keeps showing up for the Seattle Seahawks in 2025 NFL mock drafts
Plus, Seahawks fans can assume that general manager John Schneider is not going to draft a guard or center high in the draft as he said this past offseason that he thinks guards, in particular, are overdrafted and then overpaid. Macdonald also should have a lot more input on what happens in the draft than he did in 2024 when he had yet to coach a game for Seattle.
This all leads to a player whose name keeps coming up in mock drafts for the Seahawks next year. The most recent one is from the excellent Danny Kelly of the Ringer. He believes that Seattle should take University of George edge rusher Jalon Walker. He isn't the first NFL expert to think that either.
The move would make sense. Macdonald's defense could use more high-end pass rusher, especially if veteran Uchenna Nwosu is a cap casualty next offseason. Nwosu is a good player when healthy and a fantastic human being, but releasing him would save the team $8 million, and Seattle is tight against the cap in 2025. The Seahawks still have Derick Hall and Boye Mafe under contract.
Adding Walker to Hall and Mafe would give the Seahawks a near-elite trio of edge rushers. The Georgia product is a little undersized at 6'2" and 245 pounds, but he has excellent athletic ability and length. He has also been coached very well in college.
According to Kelly, "(The) Georgia standout is a versatile playmaker who can be deployed from multiple alignments" and "his athleticism and top-tier closing speed make him a great fit for Mike Macdonald’s defense, which likes to bring pressure from every conceivable angle." The question might be, though, is whether Walker will still be around when Seattle chooses.
Because the Seahawks have been winning lately, their first-round draft pick is going lower. Seattle could potentially not pick until the 20s and Walker will probably be gone by then.
