The Seattle Seahawks have an excellent group of edge rushers, but an addition to that rotation would always be welcome. No team can have too many good pass rushers, and Seattle wouldn't say no to signing one, and that includes Matt Judon, who just became available after being released by the Miami Dolphins.
To be sure, Judon hasn't been productive this season. He has zero sacks in 13 games, and just three quarterback hits while playing 41 percent of defensive snaps. He is also 33 years old, closer to the end of his career (maybe at the very end), but he is probably capable of more than he was doing in Miami.
He would just need to find the right fit. One possible fit would be with Mike Macdonald and the Seahawks. The head coach would certainly have an idea of how to use Judon.
Seattle Seahawks have the opportunity to sign a talented veteran edge rusher
Macdonald was Judon's position coach with the Baltimore Ravens from 2018 through 2020, seasons in which Judon had a total of 22.5 sacks and made the Pro Bowl twice. Were those seasons a long time ago? Yes, but just last season, the edge rusher had 5.5 sacks with the Atlanta Falcons.
The addition of Judon would also allow veterans DeMarcus Lawrence and Uchenna Nwosu to stay fresher, and that could pay off in the playoffs. Judon wouldn't need to take many of their reps, of course, but even in limited snaps, he could have an immediate impact.
He also wouldn't be expensive. No team is going to pay much for him to only play three regular season games and maybe a playoff game or three. The veteran surely understands that, too, but as his career might end in the 2025 season, Judon should be extra motivated to go out a winner.
The Seattle Seahawks can likely help him do that. While quarterback Sam Darnold has to prove he can be good in the most meaningful games, and many difficult teams would lie ahead, general manager John Schneider would be adding talent and veteran experience at the best possible time.
Matt Judon wouldn't be expected to play a lot of reps or make a good defense great. The Seahawks already have a great defense. The edge rusher would simply be another piece to a fantastic puzzle, one that helps other players be their best. That could be the difference in winning a playoff game or not.
