Pete Carroll makes bizarre request of Jamal Adams after disappointing Seahawks run

Adding the safety...or the...what?

Many Seattle Seahawks fans will be keeping an eye on the Las Vegas Raiders through the 2025 season. Usually, 12s don't care. This year? Things are quite different.

The Raiders are turning into Seahawks South. Due to coaches being relieved of their duties and player releases, new Las Vegas head coach Pete Carroll is going to have a lot of familiar faces on his team. Geno Smith will be his quarterback, and several of the coaching staff have worked with (and been related to) Carroll, too.

Oh, yeah...Jamal Adams is currently on the team as well. Albeit in a very strange position, it seems.

Pete Carroll wants massive Seahawks bust Jamal Adams to do what exactly?

Adams flamed out with the Seahawks after four seasons, 12s might not fondly recall. He was excellent in his first season with the team in 2020. 9.5 sacks from a defensive back is so special that it has never happened before. Those were the last sacks he would have with the team. After the 2023 season, due to inefficiency and injury, he was released.

He found a home with the Tennessee Titans for a short time, was often injured, and was then released. The Detroit Lions picked him up late in 2024, but Adams failed to do much. In July, when it seemed unlikely any team might pick up Adams, Pete Carroll came to the rescue.

Sort of. It seems as if the Las Vegas Raiders are going to do something even the Seattle Seahawks would not do. While Seattle isn't afraid to get players reps at different spots, they wouldn't take a safety and move them to inside linebacker.

Adams makes more sense, if he makes any sense at all, at edge rusher. He has at least shown the quickness and instincts to chase down opposing quarterbacks, though that seems like before the Earth cooled. To put him at inside linebacker only risks him further to the injury he is almost guaranteed to have. Or injuries.

According to ESPN's Ryan McFadden, Pete Carroll has asked Adams to play inside linebacker. This might be best for the team, as there is no harm in trying the seemingly former safety out at the new spot, but terrible for the player who has more of a chance of running into other players and getting hurt. Adams is apparently made of glass, after all.

Of course, the biggest hope for Pete Carroll, who will likely always be beloved by Seattle Seahawks fans, is that Jamal Adams, who will always have a mixed review from 12s, is that Adams doesn't disrupt the locker room. Adams tried to do that in Week 15 of the 2023 season when he refused to stay at the stadium (or stayed home) when the Seahawks were playing the Philadelphia Eagles.
