Geno Smith - QB

Mentioning that the quarterback of a team is an essential piece of the roster may seem silly, but Geno Smith's presence holds a lot more weight than the average quarterback around the league.

After seemingly winning the starting role last summer, Smith went on to have the best season of his career, which ended with Seattle's first postseason appearance in two years and a Pro Bowl appearance.

His career had been challenging, with lots of obstacles to overcome to get him to the point of stepping into some big shoes with the Seahawks. However, his passion for the game and his team was visible to everyone who watched a game, and the leadership he brought to the locker room was much needed as the team underwent quite a few changes.

It was indeed the right place at the right time for Smith. His performance on and off the field brought excitement back to the Pacific Northwest and even earned him a hefty new contract worth $105 million over the next three seasons.

Now that he will be a permanent fixture for Seattle's offense, Smith's importance under center is higher than just being the quarterback. The foundation for his continued success was laid last season, and vital pieces have been put in place from free agency and the draft to make his job much easier this time around.

All that's left to do is build upon that and take this team as far as they can go. And, hopefully, that ends up being a deep postseason run.
