2. The installment of two new pillars

The five most important positions in football, if you ranked them, would likely come down to quarterback, edge rusher, offensive tackle, top cornerback, and top wide receiver. In this year's draft, somehow the Seattle Seahawks entered the first round with two picks and came away with the best players at two of those very positions.

The Seahawks were able to grab Devon Witherspoon near the top of the draft to anchor their 2023 draft class, and the Illinois product immediately gives the secondary an ideal press corner who can tangle with the best wideouts on the boundary (e.g. an important addition when you play the Niners twice a year).

With their second pick in the first round at No. 20 overall, they added heralded wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, a prospect out of Ohio State without any real weakness who runs wicked routes and has the potential to be a very, very special player.

While there were other needs on the board both times and defensive line remains an issue, the truth is that the Seahawks are going to be much better for the next half-decade because they landed two terrific pro-ready players of major organizational importance. That's going to make this season fun to watch.
