4 bold predictions for the Seattle Seahawks 2024 season
The Seahawks swarming defense will be in the top three
I was going to say the Seahawks' defense would crack the top five, but that doesn't exactly seem very bold, does it? Mike Macdonald had the Ravens defense in the top three in his first season as Baltimore's defensive coordinator. His team led the league in fewest points allowed last year. We all remember just how devastating that defense was, right, 12s?
How will it happen? Well for one, the Hawks will have two double-digit sack masters in 2024. Even though Uchenna Nwosu may miss a game or two, he'll still bounce back with at least a 10-sack season. Boye Mafe will continue to make strides in his game, and cross that double-digit mark as well.
I'm confident my prediction about the Hawks' sack production from last season will come true this year. I predicted then that Seattle would tally 62 sacks. Hey, I was only off by 15! Well, rerun that prediction, 12s, because it's happening this year. For the most part, the same arguments apply, Except I'm right this time.
Remember when I mentioned Bobby Wagner about, oh, seven hours ago? That depends on how many episodes of The Rings of Power you binged between pages. BWagz was - and is - undeniably great, But his one weakness is in coverage. In Mike Macdonald's scheme, the inside linebackers have to be able to cover.
We've already seen that Tyrel Dodson can get the job done in preseason. Jerome Baker, though, has missed so much of the preseason, we can only surmise that he'll be as effective as he has been in the past. The answer there is that he's been much better in coverage than either Wagner or Brooks. Rookie Tyrice Knight has been a major surprise as well, making plays everywhere.
As for the defensive backfield, Devon Witherspoon looks even better so far, at least in practice. The great news is that Riq Woolen appears to be back to his stellar rookie form. Tre Brown is ready to play, and rookie Nehemiah Pritchett made several big plays throughout the preseason. Julian Love has played like a Pro Bowler - which makes sense because he is one - and K'Von Wallace is ready to step in for Rayshawn Jenkins if need be in Week 1. This is a scary group of DBs, and I don't mean that in the Tedric Thompson way, either.
