4 bold predictions for the Seattle Seahawks 2024 season
Three Seahawks will finish second in league awards
That seems pretty crappy for a bold prediction, I know. Second place in awards, really? Well, the title of the article is bold predictions, not insane predictions. We know all too well how little the national media thinks of Seattle, assuming they think of it at all. Say what you will about Russell Wilson and how he left the Seahawks organization, but zero MVP votes in his career seems a bit odd, right? At least Bobby Wagner got an MVP vote - once.
It should be obvious then that while I expect each of the following Hawks to come in second in the awards races, I believe they'll deserve the trophy. Second place, maybe you get a plaque or discount coupons for the NFL RedZone channel. Regardless, I expect big things from these three Hawks.
Mike Macdonald, Coach of the Year. That would seem like a no-brainer, right, 12s? I mean, come on, the guy is not only going to be the youngest coach in the league, but he's stepping into the shoes of one of the NFL's best coaches ever. As crazy as it seems, he's never held a head coaching position before, not even in Pop Warner Football.
Okay, maybe he coached his dog as a 12-year-old kid, but since the age of 21 when he coached running backs and linebackers at Cedar Shoals High School, he's never been the guy in charge. He's ready for the moment, though. I just hope the league is able to see that.
Devon Witherspoon, Defensive Player of the Year. We know how he was robbed of the best Defensive Rookie award last season, but this year will be different. Ah, who am I kidding? Spoon could have nine interceptions, six sacks, three pick-sixes, and the best passer rating allowed in the league this year and he still wouldn't win the award. I actually wouldn't be a bit surprised if he pulled off each of those achievements this year. Okay, not the pick-sixes, because that's just crazy talk. But the rest of it? Oh yeah. Devon Witherspoon is about to announce himself with authority this year.
Byron Murphy II, Defensive Rookie of the Year. I'm more confident about this selection than I am for either Coach Macdonald or Witherspoon. Murphy has been an absolute monster in the preseason, routinely drawing double-teams and at times even triple-team blocking. He's not listed as a starter, but he'll get a lot of play in the rotation from Week 1 versus the Broncos. I feel so sorry for Bo Nix, I really do. Murphy is the second coming of Michael Bennett, and that's at the low end of the scale on what this guy can do.
