Geno Smith claims a non-Seahawks wide receiver will be the best ever

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith believes he knows who will be the best wide receiver ever and it's not a Seattle player (yet).

Forget about DK Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Tyler Lockett. According to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, none of those guys will be the best wide receiver ever. In fact, no one currently playing in the NFL fits that role for Smith.

To be fair to Smith, the wide receiver he does think could be the best receiver is family. Literally. So Smith isn't being a bad guy when he claims that Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith could be the greatest receiver of all time. Jeremiah had a fantastic start to his college career as well as the 6'3" freshman had 11 catches for 211 yards and three touchdowns.

The longest of which was 70 yards when Smith caught a short pass over the middle and then outran the defense on his way to the end zone. The problem for Geno is that Jeremiah probably will not be ready to play with the quarterback for a couple of seasons. The Smiths are cousins and both are originally from around Miami, Florida, but we cannot expect a cousin combination in the NFL soon.

Smith the receiver is a true freshman so he will need to stay in college for three seasons. By the time he can declare for the draft, Geno will be nearly 37 years old. He might still be playing somewhere - even for the Seahawks - but that seems unlikely. Plus, if he is still playing for Seattle, the hope is that the team has been doing quite well and would likely draft too high for Jeremiah.

That is assuming Jeremiah continues the success he had in his first game for Ohio State. He already has the size and speed to play in the NFL and he just needs to develop his route-running and awareness. Every receiver, no matter how skilled they are, must develop that even into their first season in the NFL.

Of course, maybe Seattle gets lucky and Geno is good for five more years and the team somehow stumbles into taking Jeremiah and JSN is still with the team. That might be an electric combination and allow the Seahawks to continue having one of the best receiving trios in the league.
