The Seahawks offensive line played poorly in the first quarter. Losing George Fant at right tackle could make things infinitely worse. Fant has been ruled out for the game.

The Seahawks offensive line didn't appear to be any better than last season in the first quarter of the game against the Broncos. Geno Smith was under near contant pressure by the Broncos front seven. That's hardly what the 12s expected for the start of the Macdonald era.

To make things worse, George Fant went out late in the first quarter. Could be the analysts were right about the O-line improvement. That forced Seattle to bring Stone Forsythe into the game. While he wasn't terrible last season, there's a reason he wasn't starting ahead of Abe Lucas. It's the same reason that John Schneider brought Fant to Seattle. Luckily, Geno Smith came up with the play of the day so far.

The Seattle Seahawks need George Fant on the field

The Seahawks offensive line has been awful so far in this game. CouldGeorge Fant wasn't exactly playing lights out at the point he was knocked out of the game, but neither was anyone else. His loss isn't so much that he can't play. It's that the entire offensive line has been weak, and Forsythe makes that line even more suspect.

The Hawks managed to mount one short drive but had to settle for a 50-yard Jason Myers field goal. If it wasn't for the Seattle defense coming up with several huge plays, this game could have been a runaway well before the half. I'm sure by now there are at least 100 smashed TVs in the Pacific Northwest. I would have smashed mine too, but the wife would unalive me if I made her miss Pachinko on Apple TV tonight.

Seattle's offensive line was even called for holding in their own end zone, giving Denver a safety. That penalty was courtesy of Hawks second-year guard Anthony Bradford. That was the biggest mistake of the game so far, but it literally could have been anyone on the line that fell apart. So far, yes, this line is awful.

With Fant out, the Hawks will be forced to run even more quick-count plays. They haven't been able to give Geno Smith a clean pocket for more than two seconds at any point so far. He's often had less time than that. As I write this, Smith pulled off the play of the day so far, scrambling for 34 yards and the Seahawks first touchdown of the day. The Hawks can't rely on him to do that on every series, so the O-line needs to get their act together soon.
