New video of DK Metcalf might prove Austin Rivers' theory to be ridiculous

Rivers recently said NBA players could be NFL players but not the other way around.

A person has a right to their opinion. Austin Rivers is wrong, though. The basketball player said recently that 30 NBA players he knows of could make it into the NFL, but that 30 NFL players would not make it as NBA players. To be fair, both aspects are probably untrue.

Great athletes are great athletes, but that does not mean because they are one of the best in the world at one sport that they could easily transpose that into being one of the best in the world at another sport. Could two or three NBA players make an NFL team (and the other way around)? Probably, but not 30.

Let's pretend Rivers is correct, however. Let's also pretend that NFL players could be good NBA players. What seems nearly certain is that Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf would be one of those to make the transition to basketball. He has already shown an ability to play well as he won the MVP award in the 2023 celebrity game at NBA All-Star Weekend.

Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf could make Austin Rivers look silly

In that game, Metcalf had 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots. The blocked shot number is as telling about his athletic prowess as anything else. Anyone can score, and anyone can chase down rebounds, but blocking another player's shot? That takes talent.

A recently posted video on X/Twitter proves further that Metcalf would likely be a good player. He is 6'4" which is tall for a football player, but he would be a guard in the NBA. He'd need to show he can take care of the ball, play sticky defense, and shoot 3s, but creating offense near the basket? He has that down.

In the video posted by Overtime, Metcalf dunks with authority, sure, but he strokes a 3 with ease and fantastic form. He looks like he could have at least played college basketball had he not played football. He seemingly plays with the fluidity of a natural basketball player as well, which means if he devoted his time to that sport instead of football, he might develop into an excellent player.

One potentially worthy of playing in the NBA. He has the height, athletic ability, and great shooting form. He might not be as good as Tee Higgins had Higgins devoted himself to basketball rather than football after high school - come to think of it, Higgins and Metcalf (that's two!) could probably both be NBA players - but Metcalf is likely good enough to make an NBA team.
