Potential Bryce Young to Seahawks rumor gets social media treatment
By Lee Vowell
Former No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, Bryce Young, has been benched. In his place will be veteran Andy Dalton. The question about Young is whether he was the issue with not playing well or whether he just had few weapons to work with.
Since he has been benched there have been all kinds of rumors of what the Panthers might do with the quarterback. Some have speculated that he might be traded to the Seattle Seahawks. This seems a bit silly, but that does not mean people will stop talking about it.
Some examples of the social media posts are below and why they may or may not work well. Let's be honest, none do. The Seattle Seahawks have made crazier moves, though.
Social media goes a bit silly over a potential Bryce Young move to the Seattle Seahawks
This idea makes little sense. First of all, why not Howell, plus maybe a seventh-round choice? Howell has proven he can be a decently productive quarterback in the NFL - more than Young has - and both have started a total of 18 games so far. Maybe bring Young to Seattle for a second-round pick (which makes little sense if Seattle has Smith and Howell) or Howell straight-up, but not both.
Again with the Howell and a second-round choice. Howell has been better in two seasons than Young with the same amount of starting experience and somehow Young is worth Howell and a second-round choice? That is illogical and just hope for the future when maybe Howell is always as good as Young.
The question that should be asked about this post is "Why?" Let's forget Sam Howell for a second. Geno Smith is 33 years old and has been a good quarterback for the last two-plus seasons. He has started 2024 well. If anything, the Panthers should be begging for Smith, who played under current Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales when Canales was in Seattle, instead of Seattle wanting Young.
One, the Rams cannot afford Young. Matthew Stafford is too expensive for a couple of more years. Plus, Stafford is not bad and surely better than Young.
The other part here is that Geno Smith is signed through 2025 and has been pretty good. He wants an extension and is earning one with his play. Young would be a wasted trade.
Let's assume Young doesn't earn his starting spot back. Let's assume neither does Sam Howell. Let's also assume Geno Smith gets an extension with the Seahawks. All three could be true which makes adding Young unnecessary.
