Predicting where Seahawks will land in NFC West standings post-schedule release
NFC West Standings 3rd Place: Seattle Seahawks
Now, you might be thinking that a 3rd place projected finish means I’m not very high on the Seahawks this season, but that is not the case. I actually believe Seattle is a playoff team, and has a schedule that should help them get back to January football.
A hot start in the NFL can go a long way to making the playoffs, and Seattle has everything you could ask for in the first five games. The Seahawks start their season at home against the Denver Broncos and on the road against the New England Patriots. That means Bo Nix will get his first NFL start at Lumen Field in a rivalry game. While I think the Broncos may be a sneaky good team, this is a great opportunity for Macdonald to get win number 1.
Heading to Foxboro is not an easy trip, but this is not the same Patriots team of the past 25 years. Drake Maye has the potential to be a future star, but this Patriots roster is one of the worst in the league, and you can’t ask for a better chance to go on the road and get to 2-0. Teams that start the season 2-0 made the playoffs over 70 percent of the time in the 16-game schedule era. It’s not a guarantee, but it creates positive vibes for the new leadership.
The next seven games should provide Schneider and Macdonald a clear picture of where this team is in the hierarchy of the NFL.
WK 3 - vs Miami
WK 4 - @ Detroit (MNF)
WK 5 - vs NYG
WK 6 - vs San Francisco (TNF)
WK 7 - @ Atlanta
WK 8 - vs Buffalo
WK 9 - vs LA Rams
Five playoff teams in seven weeks, plus two primetime games and two massive divisional games at home. If the Seahawks survive that stretch, then we might really have something on our hands this year. If the Seahawks can get to 5-4 at that point, I think a wildcard spot is there for the taking.
I believe Macdonald gets the defense into the top half of the league, and guys like Dre Jones, Leonard Williams and rookie Byron Murphy will thrive, bringing a real pass rush to the Seahawks that has been missing for years.
2024 Record Prediction: 10-7 (Wild Card berth)
