6 quarterbacks who could be the Seahawks starting quarterback in 2025
By Lee Vowell
Dak Prescott
This one might seem like a stretch, especially as so many other sites have speculated on a potential Prescott to Seattle trade. The issue is that the Seahawks cannot really afford the quarterback. Sure, the team would save $25 million by releasing Geno Smith next offseason, but that would mean Seattle is only about $10 million clear of the cap ceiling.
Prescott is an unrestricted free agent in 2025 and will probably want as much as (if not more) $50 million a season. He is only 30 years old and should have a number of years to play at a high level. He is not a perfect quarterback, though.
In 2022, he led the NFL in interceptions with 15. He has just three seasons with a quarterback rating higher than 100 in his eight-year career. While he is a very good regular season quarterback, in the postseason his record is 2-5 and his quarterback rating is only 91.8. He isn't terrible, of course, but he clearly has not shown he can lead a team to a Super Bowl.
Would he be productive with the Seahawks with a receiving corps that includes, assumedly, DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba? Sure. That does not mean Seattle is any closer to winning a championship. The best hope might be that Seattle somehow does trade for Prescott this year because at leas the team would know if the quarterback is a great fit for offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.
