Recently released video likely will increase DK Metcalf trade talk
By Lee Vowell
There are many people who are going to not read this article but see the headline and comment on social media with a reaction to the headline. That is the world we live in, unfortunately. Some people want to write book reports about books they have never read. Still, the title is not misleading: People will run with any implication of a possibility whether it is fact or not.
This has been the case with Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf this offseason. Some sites have suggested Seattle should trade Metcalf to their receiver-needy teams. There is no real basis for this, only that Metcalf is good and expensive and their team needs someone like him. This is especially true for the Pittsburgh Steelers who have fan sites write untold articles about the potential of acquiring Metcalf.
The receiver is also a self-aware person who understands his actions will have consequences, at least off the field. He does draw far too many 15-yard penalties for taunting and the like, but that is a story for another day. The point is that if Metcalf does something, he does so intentionally.
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf spends the morning with Russell Wilson
On Wednesday, a video was posted on social media of former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson doing an early-morning workout with Metcalf in Los Angeles. Wilson threw the ball several times and Metcalf caught the ball. It might remind 12s of the old days in the not-so-distant past.
After all, Metcalf's best season was likely in 2020 when he had 1,303 receiving yards and 10 touchdown receptions. Wilson was his quarterback in those games. In 2022, Metcalf had a career-high 12 touchdown receptions and Wilson was his quarterback in most of those games as well. DK Metcalf probably likes catching passes from Russell Wilson.
None of that should imply that a trade of Metcalf to Wilson's new team, the Steelers, is imminent. These were simply two former teammates doing an offseason workout. The issue for the public when they see the video is that Russell Wilson is throwing the football and DK Metcalf is on the receiving end. In reality, these two players will probably remain former teammates forever, but that won't stop speculation that a reunion might happen soon.
In fact, A To Z Sports posted an article almost immediately titled, "Steelers WR trade rumors receive another spark following latest Russell Wilson workout video," and finished with the words, "...boy would the return of the 'Moon-Ball' that made Russell Wilson so famous in Seattle look great in the black and gold and with his old friend."
That was bound to happen when Wilson and Metcalf decided to work out together. The Seahawks receiver probably knows that as well. Still, DK Metcalf is not going anywhere and will be in Seattle for at least two more years and likely beyond.
