Seahawks 2023 safety duo was clearly a dream to the Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans must have taken one look at the Seattle Seahawks presumed starting safety duo of 2023 and thought, "That is brilliant!"

One thing is certain, the intrasquad practice and preseason game between the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans in a couple of weeks just got a lot more interesting. Another thing seems sure as well and that is the Titans absolutely loved what Seattle's 2023 idea of a safety duo should be. This is based on Tennessee not only signing Jamal Adams but, as of Sunday, signing Quandre Diggs as well.

Of course, Tennessee's safety group was a mess last year. The group suffered a number of injuries, inefficiency, or both, and this crippled what the Titans were wanting to do on defense. Coincidentally, one of the safeties who played for the Titans, K'Von Wallace, is now with the Seahawks. Wallace moved from the Arizona Cardinals to Tennessee in midseason and was pretty good, especially in terms of tackling.

The question that might be asked of the Titans this year is what they saw from Diggs and Adams last year that made them want to sign the safety pair. Seattle's defense was much better with Julian Love finally getting Adams reps as the defense allowed nearly a touchdown on average less when Love got more than 44 percent of the defensive snaps.

Former Seahawks safeties Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams have both signed with the Tennessee Titans

Adams has stayed hurt over the last few years and he is a weakness in coverage. How healthy he will remain and how productive he can be is a true unknown so Tennessee is taking a big risk in signing him. Clearly, the people in charge of the Titans see things differently than John Schneider and Mike Macdonald because Diggs and Adams were both released ahead of free agency this offseason by the Seahawks.

Diggs is the safer bet. His production dipped greatly in 2023 compared to his three-plus previous seasons with Seattle, but he was still solid in coverage. He allowed just two touchdown passes, and his yards allowed per target (10.0) was the same or better than in two of his three previous years, in all of which Diggs made the Pro Bowl.

Unfortunately, and ultimately, the joke of Tennessee signing Adams and Diggs might be on the Seahawks. The Titans signed Diggs to a one-year deal for $5 million and Adams to a one-year deal for only $1,292,500.

Because Adams and Diggs were still under contract with Seattle for 2024 when they were released, the Seahawks will be paying Adams $20,833,334 and Diggs $10,262,500 this season to not play for the team. Tennessee is simply taking a chance on two aging players and not spending much for them. In a way, Seattle is paying the players good money for them to play for the Titans.
