Seahawks bring in some competition at quarterback for PJ Walker

Seattle doesn't need a third quarterback on the active roster but they need one on the practice squad. Who will that be?

If 12s have learned anything about Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks Sam Howell and PJ Walker in training camp and preseason games, fans have learned Walker is good in practice and Howell is not and then the reverse occurs when games occur.

During training camp, Howell was inaccurate (a lot of passes were like the one we saw him throw to Jake Bobo - five feet over his head - on Seattle's first drive against the Tennessee Titans in preseason Week 2 - and seemed to have little rapport with his receivers. Walker was sharp and seemed to understand how to run the offense well.

Then preseason games began and Howell looked much better, if not as good as QB1 Geno Smith, and cemented his QB2 spot. Walker has been extremely inaccurate and tends to throw the ball too hard when a little touch will do. The indecision has crippled his productivity.

Seattle Seahawks bring in quarterback Casey Bauman for a visit

Because of Walker's dismal play, Seattle brought in quarterback Casey Bauman for a look on Sunday. There was no signing and there might not be, but having Bauman in for a workout at all means Seattle certainly isn't happy with how Walker looks. Seattle won't keep three quarterbacks on the active roster but can have a third quarterback available on game days should something happen to Smith and Howell.

Does Seattle really want Walker to take over the offense? Hopefully, not. Bauman might not be the answer either, however.

Bauman played college football at Montana State - he was there for four years and rarely played - and spent his last year at Augustana University in South Dakota. At Augustana, Bauman had a very good season with 29 touchdown passes and just nine interceptions. He passed for almost 3,000 yards and ran for another 300-plus yards with five touchdowns.

The quarterback is a large human being. He is 6'7" and 225 pounds with a strong arm. His rushing yards in his final year in college might imply he has some athleticism as well, but he was also playing against Division III opponents.

He is also a Washington native having gone to Nooksack Valley High School in Everson. Because Bauman's mother is Canadian, this makes him Canadian Football League draft eligible. One might assume if Bauman doesn't stick on an NFL roster - he was previously on the Los Angeles Chargers but never played and was released last week - he will choose to go to the CFL to prove his value.
