Former Seattle Seahawks players who are surprisingly still free agents
By Lee Vowell
Former Seahawks defensive lineman Shelby Harris
Harris is also 31 years old and coming off arguably the worst year of his career. In his one season with the Seahawks (2022), Harris had just 2 sacks, 5 tackles for loss, and 6 quarterback hits. The tackles for loss and quarterback hits were either the worst or tied for the worst numbers Harris has had in a full season since 2015.
Harris, of course, came over in the trade that sent Russell Wilson to the Broncos in the 2022 offseason and the hope was he could bolster a pass rush from the interior of the defensive line. Instead, Harris couldn't stop the run well and didn't do much against the pass. The shame is that Harris seems to be a good teammate so we should want him to succeed.
But like Jackson, Harris was going to be far overpaid in 2023 and letting him walk was simply financially the right thing to do. Shedding Harris's bloated contract also helped create some of the cap room needed for Seattle to sign Dre'Mont Jones and Jarran Reed. And both Reed and Jones should easily surpass Harris's overall production from 2022.
But Harris is still probably capable of helping some team. Every other year since 2017 Harris has an excellent season and produces 5.5 sacks or more. He might not get that many with a new team but probably can do more than 2.
