Geno Smith threw two interceptions. This was an example of how the Seattle Seahawks had a weird game in Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season. Smith doesn't throw many picks comparative to other quarterbacks in the NFL. Plus, both his interceptions came off tipped passes.

One was his fault as he threw high to running back Zach Charbonnet near Seattle's own goal line and Smith needs to be better at controlling the ball in that situation. He admitted to as much in the team's post-game press conference. That did not stop him from completing 26 of 34 passes for 289 yards and a touchdown in Seattle's 24-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins.

The point is that what Smith was able to do was enough to get the Seahawks a victory and move the team to 3-0. Seattle is now one of five undefeated teams in the league. Better yet, unlike all but one of those teams, Seattle is in a division where the other teams all have at least two losses.

Seahawks fast start is great for their long-term success in the NFC West

The San Francisco 49ers shockingly lost to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday even after leading 14-0 after the first quarter. LA was 0-2 entering the game. The 49ers have now lost two straight games.

The other NFC West team, the Arizona Cardinals, lost to Seattle's Week 4 opponent, the Detroit Lions 2013 so they are now 1-2 as well. In other words, the Seahawks lead the NFC West after three games by two games. There is obviously a lot of season left, but Seatle could also be in amuch worse position.

Plus, even though Seattle has faced three quarterbacks this season who are either rookies or either viewed as long-term backups, the team still could have allowed more points than Seattle has. The Seahawks defense is statistically in the top ten of the league currently, and that simply means they are taking care of business.

Things could be far worse. 12s could still be watching the Seahawks' defenses of 2022 and 2023. One might rightly feel as if Seattle would have found a way to lose one of their first three games had they still been coached by Pete Carroll.
