Seahawks best value pick No. 3: Receiver DK Metcalf

So back to what I spoke of on the first slide of this article. That would be players who still were chosen relatively high but have exceeded expectations. In 2019, DK Metcalf had one of the best NFL combine performances in history. He confirmed what people thought and that was that he was a physical freak. He could run faster and jump higher than most mortals.

And after the combine, there was even discussion of how high Metcalf would go in the first round. Was he a top-ten choice? In terms of raw physicality, of course. This is why when pick after pick went by from the first round and well into the second round it was a bit shocking. There were questions about his ability to run route trees (he can) and if he could stay healthy (also, he can).

The Seahawks finally chose Metcalf at pick 64 overall, the last pick of the second round. Now obviously many teams now are kicking themselves that they didn't take Metcalf, but even Seattle wasn't overly brave. Metcalf was the third pick Seattle chose that year and came after picks who are no longer on the team: L.J. Collier and Marquise Blair.

But now in just four seasons, Metcalf stands at eighth all-time in Seahawks history in receiving yards (4,218), seventh in receiving touchdowns (35), eighth in receptions (306), and third in yards-receiving-per-game (63.9). He is still only 25 years old and if he continues to remain healthy Metcalf could easily end up at number 2 in most all-time receiving categories for Seattle. Who knows? Maybe he could even chase Steve Largent at number 1 in some categories.
