Seattle Seahawks inactives versus the Detroit Lions in Week 2
By Lee Vowell
Just when we thought the Seattle Seahawks were limping a bit into the first game of the 2023 season when they were missing players such as Devon Witherspoon against the Los Angeles Rams, Week 2 comes around and looks worse. Far worse. Seattle will be missing both of its starting offensive tackles against the Detroit Lions.
Each NFL team has to rest up to seven players each week as inactives. The active 53-man roster is really 46 by game time. This doesn't include players who are on injured reserve, of course, and we already knew that the Seahawks placed starting right tackle Abraham Lucas on injured reserve ahead of Week 2. He won't count as being inactive against the Lions.
Left tackle Charles Cross isn't on IR but head coach Pete Carroll already said Cross won't play in Week 2 so we know he will be among the inactives. We can also assume safety Jamal Adams wasn't going to play either. My assumption is that Adams won't actually play until after the Week 5 bye week. This might be somewhat odd, though, as the Seahawks could have just placed him on IR after announcing their initial roster and this would have opened a roster spot for the first four games.
Seahawks inactives in Week 2 are not a pretty sight
Seattle might need that, too. Cross might not return until after the bye week as well (that's just a guess of mine). While Seattle did sign veteran offensive tackle Jason Peters, they've still lost two OTs and replaced them with one proven and quality OT. They signed another to the practice squad but only in case of emergency.
We could also have assumed rookie defensive end Mike Morris would be inactive in Week 2 as well. He has been dealing with a shoulder injury and didn't practice ahead of Week 2. He is depth currently, though in a couple of years might be a starter.
Here is who is inactive for the Seahawks in Week 2. Maybe this will be the last time Jamal Adams is inactive for Seattle? Just don't bet on it.
