4 pending Seattle Seahawks free agents who probably won't be back in 2024
By Lee Vowell
The Seattle Seahawks, like every NFL team, have decisions to make in terms of cap room and which free agents to try to sign. This, of course, means the team's own free agents. Seattle might still be in the midst of a (quick) rebuild, so not overspending to keep a player is important.
Seattle currently has the 19th-most cap room in 2024 at $8,915,520. That's not a lot of money to spend and that number doesn't include Seattle's 2024 free agents that need to return. In other words, tough decisions will need to be made.
Some players could be released to create more cap room next offseason depending on production and injury. Somehow, the team will create more cap room. But the following four 2024 free agents might not return after this coming season.
Four Seattle Seahawks who might be entering their last season with the team
Noah Fant - Seattle Seahawks tight end
Fant isn't a bad player at all. But the Seahawks picked up his fifth-year option when Fant was part of the trade that sent Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos during the 2022 offseason. Fant will make the 15th-highest salary among tight ends in 2023, but he isn't the 15th-most productive tight end in the league when it comes to receiving. And that's basically what Fant is; A good receiver and not a great blocker.
Fant might just not be a great fit in the Seahawks system, either. In 2022, a year when Seattle's offense was pretty good, Fant had the personal worst of his career in terms of receiving yards (486) and yards-per-reception (9.7). He also only had 4 touchdown catches and he's never had more than 4 in his four seasons.
Fant could leave Seattle after 2023 for several reasons. One is he wants to get the ball more than he ever will in Seattle. Two is that Seattle doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a player who will likely get higher offers elsewhere. Lastly, Seattle still will have Will Dissly under contract and could draft a tight end in 2024 that is a better fit for Seattle than Fant.
