The Seattle Seahawks may have a roster capable of sneaking into the postseason once again under new head coach Mike Macdonald, but it's never too early for them to start thinking about the 2025 NFL Draft. Even though the quarterback class is generally regarded as below average, the 2025 class could have an influx of elite defensive talent.

Seattle already has one of the best young defensive backs in the game in Devon Witherspoon, a player who can be a game-changer at his peak in Riq Woolen, and a quality veteran in Julian Love. Rather than address a need, the Seahawks could look to further reinforce an area of strength.

In Field Yates' 2025 NFL Mock Draft for ESPN, he has the Seahawks taking arguably the most marquee name in college football. With the 11th pick in Yates' draft, Seattle is taking Colorado star Travis Hunter, who is a two-way player that starts at both cornerback and wide receiver for the Buffaloes.

The Seahawks have been known to sometimes take mounds of raw athletic potential and figure out how they best fit into the scheme later. There may not be a player taken in the next two drafts as athletic and gifted physically as Hunter, making him a perfect selection for Seattle.

Hunter recorded 30 tackles, three interceptions, and five pass breakups as a cornerback last season. In addition, he reeled in 57 passes for 721 yards and five touchdowns on offense. There is still legitimate debate over Hunter's best professional position, as he is an equally impressive receiver and defensive back.

Hunter doesn't just make cameos. He starts on both offense and defense, regularly playing over 100 snaps per game. While Seattle might not ask him to do that, they could get some use out of him on both sides of the ball.

As a receiver, Hunter's soft hands and great speed could make him a possible successor to Tyler Lockett alongside DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. On defense, a secondary with Hunter, Woolen, and Witherspoon could find it impossible to sustain long drives thanks to No. 12's quick feet and superb instincts.

No matter what Hunter does in his final college season, someone will take him in the top half of the first round. If the Seahawks' 2024 season ends with them in Hunter's range, eschewing a quarterback prospect to select an instant starter who will immediately be one of the best pure athletes in the league seems like a slam dunk.
