The Seattle Seahawks will begin 2024 training camp in full this week. Rookies reported a week ahead of the veterans and have been going through some reps. The veterans join them on July 23.

Seattle's players will need to learn the new offensive and defensive schemes quickly, however. The first preseason game is August 10 at the Los Angeles Chargers. After that, practices will be closed to the public.

The coaching staff and general manager John Schneider must decide which players on the bloated 90-man roster to keep before Week 1. By then, the team will become a 53-man group. The decisions on who stays and who leaves begin in training camp.

The Seahawks will hold practice at the VMAC in Renton, Washington. The location is beautiful and right on Lake Washington. While camp dates are open to the public, you would need to register at the team's official site.

Fans going to camp cannot park at the VMAC, though. Instead, 12s will need to go to The Landing and then be driven by bus to the VMAC. There is a cost for parking and it is $15 per person. Check-in for training camp starts 90 minutes before practice begins. The open part of practices will last about two hours.

Seahawks training camp joint practice schedule

Unlike any year since 1991, the Seahawks will hold a joint practice with another team. These practices will take place with the Tennessee Titans and will occur at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday, August 14, and Thursday, August 15. The two teams will face each other in a preseason game on Saturday, August 17 at 4 pm PT at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

12s can certainly go to the preseason game, but the joint practices won't be public events. Holding a joint practice will give new head coach Mike Macdonald even more practice as being the guy in charge on game days. Macdonald has never been a head coach before.

Seahawks training camp positional battles to watch

Cornerback

Seattle will need to release a veteran cornerback or two, most likely. Had the Seahawks not taken Nehemiah Pritchett and D.J. James in the 2024 NFL draft, the team would still have a cornerback too many. 12s can assume Devon Witherspoon and, likely, Riq Woolen will be two of the starters at corner, but everyone else is fighting for a job.

Tre Brown could possibly be the starter opposite Woolen when Seattle has three cornerbacks on the field, which will happen on the vast majority of snaps. Mike Jackson also has starting experience, however. One of those guys could be dropped in favor of rookies Nehemiah Pritchett and D.J. James.

Right guard

This might be the most wide-open spot on the team. Last year's presumed starter, Phil Haynes, wasn't good, got injured, and is no longer on the team. 2023 part-time starter Anthony Bradford is one of the favorites to earn the job, but he has been struggling with an injury this offseason. Seattle drafted Christian Haynes and he might be great once the pads are on.

The weird part is that in minicamp with Haynes able to practice, the Seahawks used second-year pro McClendon Curtis on the first-team reps. Maybe Seattle's new coaching staff just wanted to check out whether to keep Curtis on the team. Or maybe he is better than what the former coaching staff thought.
