Worst-case scenario No. 2: The Seahawks trade back and take a quarterback

In the 2023 NFL draft, it almost makes more sense for Seattle to trade up if they truly love a player because four picks in the first 52 picks give them a lot of versatility. They could trade two of those picks to move up and still have three in the first two rounds. But trading up would be an unusual thing for general manager John Schneider to do.

So let's say that Schneider trades down with a quarterback-needy team. Going back to assuming the Texans take a quarterback at pick 2 and the Cardinals stand pat, it could be that a team like the Titans, who currently have the number 11 pick, or the Raiders, who currently have the number 7 choice, want to switch places with the Seahawks to grab a QB.

But then Seattle decides that they can do even more with the extra draft capital picked up from the Raiders or Titans and Seattle takes a quarterback like Hendon Hooker. Seattle might really like Hooker and assume he won't be around at pick 20 so taking him at 7 or 11 makes sense to them. I like Hooker, but I like him a lot in the second round and not in the first.

The Seahawks have a great opportunity to pick up a lot of defensive talent high in this draft and create a beastly defense for several years. Geno Smith is a good quarterback and is signed for three years. Seattle should stay a pick 5, hopefully choose Anderson or Carter, add more defensive talent at pick 20, and ride with Geno for at least two more years.
