Seattle Seahawks seem bent on jinxing the amazing throwback jerseys

Seattle has announced when they will wear their throwback jerseys in 2024.

Throwback jerseys are fun for the team and fans (and the owners because they make a lot of money off fans buying the gimmicky jerseys), but one underrated part is that when a team wears throwbacks, the team needs to win. For the first time, the Seattle Seahawks wore throwbacks in 2023. Their record was 1-1.

To be fair, they likely should have been 0-2. Seattle beat the Cleveland Browns in Week 8 24-20 but the Browns were playing a quarterback they wouldn't want back after the season. The player was PJ Walker who is now on Seattle's roster but at best he is QB3. In other words, the Seahawks were facing their own third-string quarterback.

In Week 13, Seattle lost to the Dallas Cowboys 41-35. There is no shame in that. Heading into the game, Dallas had beaten a string of opponents by at least 20 points at home.

Seattle Seahawks will wear throwback jerseys in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers

The Seahawks have announced they will wear the throwback jerseys at least once in 2024. That will happen in Week 6 on Thursday Night Football. The problem is that Seattle will face one of their toughest opponents - if not the most difficult - that week when they take on the San Francisco 49ers.

San Francisco is expected to win the NFC West again in 2024 after getting to the Super Bowl last year. Sure, Seattle shouldn't fear any other team as on any given Sunday (or, in this case, Thursday) one team can beat another. The Seahawks have not had any recent success against the 49ers, though, as they have lost five straight to San Francisco.

The throwback jerseys look great. They shouldn't be the main uniforms, though, because fans might get a bit bored with them. Plus, the current jerseys look good, too. But will the team want to keep wearing them if they lose to the 49ers? It's one thing to look good, but playing and winning would be better.

Next. Ranking every starting quarterback for the Seahawks ever. Ranking every starting quarterback for the Seahawks ever. dark

In fact, would it not feel better to say, "The Seahawks haven't lost in their throwbacks!" It's better than the possibility of having a losing record in the uniforms.

Maybe the jerseys should be worn in more of a homecoming-type game. You pick an opponent that the team is confident they should beat. That causes more of a celebratory situation with the jerseys.

Of course, Seattle plays in the NFL and anything can happen. There are no homecoming-type games. Plus, possibly the Seahawks beat the 49ers in Week 6. Forget what I was saying. Seattle wearing throwback jerseys against the 49ers might turn out to be perfect.
