The Seattle Seahawks have almost had worse luck with injuries in practice than in games recently. Quarterback Geno Smith suffered a groin injury in practice ahead of Week 14 and missed two games. He did return in Week 16 and led the Seahawks to a game-winning touchdown drive with less than three minutes to play. Smith should also be fine for Week 17 as well.

But WR1 for the Seahawks, DK Metcalf, seems to have sustained a back injury in practice leading up to Week 17 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers and was not able to practice on Thursday or Friday and the team officially had him listed as questionable. However, in Pete Carroll's post-practice Friday press conference, he said Metcalf would play against Pittsburgh.

This is needed because the Steelers are missing a couple of safeties, including the excellent Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee), and starting Patrick Peterson at safety. Peterson is a future Hall of Fame cornerback, most likely, but Week 17 will mark only the second time he has played safety. The Seahawks with Metcalf needed to take advantage and have some splash plays.

Inactives for the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers

Seattle listed five players as officially out for the Steelers game. This includes Jamal Adams (knee), defensive end Mario Edwards (knee), edge rusher Frank Clark (resting veteran - I am not making that up), offensive tackle Jason Peters (foot), and receiver/returner Dee Eskridge (ribs). The Seahawks knew that would make up five of Seattle's seven inactives.

Or did they? Turns out Seattle had other ideas. On Saturday, the Seahawks waived Clark and placed Jamal Adams and Dee Eskridge on injured reserve. This means that Adams' and Eskridge's seasons are done.
