Seattle Seahawks might avoid New York Giants rookie terror in Week 5
By Lee Vowell
Ahead of the start of the season, one might have looked at the Seattle Seahawks schedule and thought the team had to win its first two games of the season to have any chance of having a successful year. Mission accomplished. Then Seattle got a break in Week 3 when Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa unfortunately suffered a concussion in Week 2 and missed the Seattle game.
The same thing might be happening in Week 5 as well in terms of Seattle catching a bit of a break. New York Giants star rookie receiver Malik Nabers suffered a concussion in Week 4 and is going through the early stages of concussion protocol. Nabers won't practice on Wednesday, and his game-time status is unknown.
There might not be any rush to bring Nabers back, of course. Concussions are nothing to be trifled with, especially if a player is only four games into their career and already has had one. New York could just hold him out as a precaution.
Seahawks might be facing a New York Giant team without Malik Nabers
Through four games, Nabers leads the league in receptions (35), is second in touchdown receptions (3), and is third in receiving yards (386). It's not like Nabers blew up in one game, either. He has at least 66 yards receiving in each game and has two games of 115 yards or more. In each of the last three games, he has been targeted at least 13 times.
Nabers is obviously not just a great receiver, he is an integral part of the Giants offense. He has 14 targets more than the Giants' second-most targeted receiver and 37 more than the third-most targeted. He has quickly become New York's WR1.
Nabers and the Giants expect to learn more about his status of the Seahawks game on Thursday, but his missing Wednesday's practice is certainly not a good sign. The Seahawks might still have a weakened defense if players such as Boye Mafe, Leonard Williams, and Uchenna Nwosu aren't ready to come back. New York not having Nabers would at least help a little.
