Studs and duds from the Seahawks' Week 4 loss to the Lions

DUD - More Seahawks bad tackling
A critical aspect of football is the defense’s ability to tackle and prevent opponents from gaining additional yards, something the Seattle Seahawks struggled with during their recent game against the Detroit Lions. Missed tackles plagued Seattle throughout the matchup, allowing the Lions to extend drives and gain critical yardage after initial contact.
This breakdown in fundamental tackling was a key factor in the Seahawks' inability to contain Detroit’s offense and played a major role in their eventual defeat.
One play that highlighted Seattle's tackling issues came when Lions running back David Montgomery took a handoff and was immediately met at the line of scrimmage by Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon. Despite being in a prime position to stop Montgomery for a minimal gain, Witherspoon was unable to bring him down.
Montgomery shrugged off the tackle attempt, kept his balance, and surged forward for significant additional yardage. Even as more Seahawks defenders converged, Montgomery powered through, exposing the team’s struggle to wrap up and finish tackles.
This play was emblematic of the broader problem Seattle faced throughout the game. Time and again, Lions players broke free from initial contact or slipped through arm tackles, turning what should have been short gains into big plays.
The Seahawks’ defense, which had been impressive in the early weeks of the season, looked vulnerable against Detroit’s physical rushing attack and their skilled playmakers. The inability to tackle effectively not only allowed the Lions to move the chains but also wore down Seattle’s defense over time.
For a team that prides itself on toughness and defensive discipline under head coach Mike Macdonald, this performance was a setback. Going forward, the Seahawks must address their tackling issues if they hope to maintain their strong start to the season. Improving their ability to bring down ball carriers will be essential as they prepare to face other teams with potent offenses and physical runners.
