Player to Watch No. 2 - Wide Receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba

One of the lone bright spots in Week 9, was the play of Seahawks rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (JSN). He led the team in receptions and yards with six catches for 63 yards. JSN is starting to find his groove after catching the game-winning touchdown against the Browns in Week 8. Showing why the Seahawks drafted him with their second first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. As the season has progressed, JSN has continued to receive more snaps and targets.

JSN is quite versatile in passing game, as he can break open for long bombs down the field or quick intermediate passing game. The Seahawks should utilize him more in the quick passing game on slants and screens. Having that option helps take the pressure off Geno Smith, because doe not need to hold into ball as long, and Geno is able to get the ball out quicker. The Seahawks have used JSN in the screen game at times this season and should continue to do so going forward.

The Washington Commanders will have their hands full with the Seahawks receivers this weekend. Facing a triple threat of JSN, Tyler Lockett, and DK Metcalf. Given the struggles the Commanders have had in the secondary, the Seahawks could have a big day through the air. JSN will have a good chance to continue in his progression as an NFL wide receiver and showcase his skills this Sunday. How the Seahawks decide to use him against the Commanders will be interesting to see.
