Potential DK Metcalf trade destination makes too much sense

It is all completely logical.

Between now and a trade involving DK Metcalf that might never happen, there is going to be a lot of speculation. Will the Seattle Seahawks truly honor Metcalf's trade request as the team said it would? What kind of return will Seattle get? Where could Metcalf go?

There are more questions than answers at this point. We do not even really know what might have happened between the receiver and the team to make Metcalf request a trade. Could it be that extension contracts broke down, if they were even happening? Maybe Metcalf had his feelings hurt as the team seemed to like quarterback Geno Smith more than him.

Let's assume that the mercurial receiver is traded, though. Moving him to a team in the NFC West is out of the question. Even dealing him to another NFC team is not ideal as the hope is that Seattle gets back to being a playoff team sooner rather than later, and potentially facing Metcalf in the playoffs would not be fun.

Could the Los Angeles Chargers be the new home for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf?

The NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah thinks he has a good idea of where Metcalf could be dealt, though, and the team working a move with the Seahawks would be the Los Angeles Chargers. Jeremiah normally applies heavy logic to any of his opinions, but his one about the receiver and the Chargers might make even more sense.

Jeremiah knows the Chargers well and works radio for the team. He would have the insight to whether Los Angeles would even be interested in trying to acquire Metcalf. To be fair, why wouldn't it?

Los Angeles has a good young quarterback, Justin Herbert, who is signed through 2029. The Chargers also landed Ladd McConkey in the 2024 NFL draft, and he was excellent as a rookie. But while McConkey is a quick receiver who runs routes crisply, what the Chargers do not have is a receiver who is big and has a proven ability to be explosive.

A Metcalf and McConkey pairing would be one of the best wide receiver duos in the league. Los Angeles is already an ascending team under head coach Jim Harbaugh, but Metcalf would make them more dangerous.

The answer that Jeremiah did not have is what exactly the Chargers would send to the Seahawks in return for Metcalf. Of course, no one has that answer. Jeremiah assumed that Seattle could easily get a second-round choice back. The Chargers do not choose until pick 55 overall in the second round, though. That might not be high enough to entice Seattle general manager John Schneider to trade Metcalf somewhere.
