Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is among the most in-demand candidates for NFL head coaching jobs this offseason. Of the eight teams currently in the market for a new leader, five have requested or scheduled interviews with Kubiak. Only three teams – Cleveland, Miami, and Tennessee – have not reached out.
We’ll run through the five suitors for Kubiak’s services, but first, a note of caution. This is a very fast and fluid situation. Things can and probably will change a lot on a near-hourly basis over the next week. 36 hours before I wrote this, the Miami Dolphins were not looking for a coach, and Mike McDaniel was not a candidate for a job. There is no guarantee that more bombshells will not drop.
Kubiak is in a bit of a strange situation. Because he is preparing his current team for a hopefully deep playoff run, he may not be able to pursue a new position until the Seahawks are finished with the postseason.
Seattle Seahawks' Klint Kubiak has five head coaching interviews scheduled
That could put him at a disadvantage, especially if a franchise is eager to seal the deal quickly. However, since the Seahawks had a first-round bye, league rules did permit him to be in contact with potential employers this past week.
Here is what know so far about the teams interested in Klint Kubiak.
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals fired Jonathan Gannon at the end of a 3-14 season. The former Eagles defensive coordinator could never get quarterback Kyler Murray to grow into a top-tier leader. Will Murray be back in 2026, or with the Cardinals begin a rebuild from scratch?
Arizona has already been linked to seven potential replacements, four of whom have previous head coaching experience. Four of them are also defensive coaches. Kubiak and Patriots pass game coordinator Thomas Brown are the only two, as of now, who are offensive coaches without top-man experience.
That might appear to put him at a disadvantage. Then again, the Cardinals brass saw firsthand what he could do this season as his offenses averaged 33 points and almost 380 yards in two wins over Arizona.
Chances of being hired: Lukewarm
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons won their final four games but it was not enough to save Raheem Morris’ job. They have some very good talent on offense with Bijan Robinson and Drake London, and a pretty good young defense. Questions at quarterback remain a significant problem.
Atlanta is a little bit hard to predict because they fired GM Terry Fontenot in addition to Morris. It seems likely that they will want to hire a new GM before deciding on the coach, but that isn’t an absolute given. So far, Kubiak is just one of two candidates they have scheduled.
That could be because of the GM uncertainty, but it is nevertheless an indication that Kubiak is high on their wish list. Not only did they see him a couple of times in 2024 when he was with the Saints, but they also experienced a 37-point drubbing against his Seahawks’ offense in early December.
Chances of being hired: Moderate
Baltimore Ravens
Some people were surprised that Baltimore fired long-time, Super Bowl-winning coach John Harbaugh. It certainly shook up the market, with both Miami and the New York Giants reportedly desperate to hire him. The Ravens have the best talent of any team in the hunt for a coach.
They are the only team with an absolute stud at quarterback. I don’t think it is too much of an exaggeration to say that finding the best coach for Lamar Jackson is tantamount to finding the best coach for the Ravens.
They are casting a wide net, with eight candidates already under consideration. Five of them are offensive coaches, and two of those five have been head coaches in the NFL. But I think Kubiak has a strong chance here despite the odds. He strikes me as a very good fit with Jackson.
Chances of being hired: Good
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders' job is probably the worst one available. That is true despite the presence of young playmakers like Ashton Jeanty and Brock Bowers, and despite the increased involvement of Tom Brady in management decisions. They have no quarterback and no defense. They seem to have alienated their biggest star, Maxx Crosby. This is a total rebuild job.
That might actually appeal to a coach who should have a free hand in building the type of team he wants, but it could also be a can’t-win situation. I have a feeling that the Raiders may want Matt Nagy, but they do often think outside the box, and they may like a fresh face. This is probably the job Kubiak has been most often linked to, though that consensus is very iffy.
Chances of being hired: Good
New York Giants
The Giants have been scouting coaches for longer than any of the other teams because they fired Brian Daboll in the middle of the season. The job is a tricky one. Jaxson Dart, Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo, and Andrew Thomas are very appealing young offensive weapons.
A creative coach has something to work with there. Then again, it’s the Giants, the team with the worst record in the NFC over the past five seasons.
The Giants have scheduled or requested interviews with eight candidates, and that does not include John Harbaugh. There is some common wisdom indicating he is their top choice. They also have Kevin Stefanski and Mike McCarthy on their list, along with several other candidates with head coaching experience. Kubiak seems like a long shot at this point.
Chances of being hired: Minimal
Just so you’re aware of how fluid this is. I read through several major websites’ predictions on who would end up where. There was no agreement on any of them. One site had Kubiak going to Cleveland despite the fact that they have not approached him yet.
Until the dominoes begin falling, nothing is out of the question. I think Kubiak is a strong candidate, and he has already drawn a lot of interest, so I think there’s a good chance he will land a gig. Right now, I’d make Baltimore and Las Vegas the most likely.
For Kubiak’s sake. I hope it is the Ravens.
