Rams' latest moves may walk Seahawks into a desperate trade (and it shouldn't)

They should stay put.

The Seattle Seahawks watched their toughest rival make a league-altering move this offseason. If adding Trent McDuffie wasn't big enough, the Los Angeles Rams doubled down and also traded for Myles Garrett.

Most teams would've felt compelled to respond with a big swing of their own. However, since this move happened after the NFL Draft, there are only so many players the Seahawks could target to balance the scales again.

Considering that, FanSided's Wynston Wilcox argued that the Seahawks should consider making a run at New York Giants veteran Kayvon Thibodeaux. While that might make sense on paper, it would actually be a huge mistake.

The Seattle Seahawks should want no part of Kayvon Thibodeaux right now

"Maybe they make a move at Kayvon Thibodeaux," wrote Wilcox. "The New York Giants have showed interest in trading him and that would give the Seahawks a pass rusher with some upside to replace what Mafe contributed. They don’t have to have a long term solution in place now, but trading for Thibodeaux means he could impress enough to earn an extension."

There's definitely a case to be made for Thibodeaux. He hasn't lived up to the expectations as a former first-round pick, but it's not like the Giants have given him much of an opportunity, adding Brian Burns first and Abdul Carter later.

He's just 25 years old, and he had 11.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in his second year. Also, whoever gets him can sign him to a long-term contract extension. That said, it doesn't mean the Seahawks of all teams should get him.

The Seahawks replaced Boye Mafe with Dante Fowler Jr. Of course, he's no Myles Garrett, but their pass-rushing department is more than taken care of, also featuring DeMarcus Lawrence, Leonard Williams, and Byron Murphy II. They like to mix things up, bring in different guys, and show different looks on the field, but that doesn't mean they need to add someone else just for the sake of it.

And if that were the case, they probably wouldn't go after Kayvon Thibodeaux, with all due respect. The Seahawks were interested in Maxx Crosby, and they'd probably be much better off waiting until the trade deadline to make another run at him rather than trading for the Giants' failed first-round pick.

There are levels to everything, and Crosby is one of the few players who could actually move the needle for a team as stacked as the Seahawks. They're the defending Super Bowl champions for a reason, and they kept most of their core.

The Seahawks won't meet with the Rams until the final month of the regular season, so it's not like they need to get ready for them now. They can afford to be patient and see how things play out before making a move.

Also, as great a player as Myles Garrett is, the Rams already had a stellar pass rush with Jared Verse and Byron Young. If anything, revamping the offensive line would be a better way to counter Garrett's arrival; he's not going to play against the Seahawks' defensive ends. Since that's not gonna happen, there might not be much of a need to make a run at Thibodeaux.
