Rashid Shaheed is already giving Seahawks fans what they want to see

The Seattle Seahawks made a mid-season trade for Rashid Shaheed last year, and the move paid off big time. The All-Pro return specialist emerged as a special teams weapon for Seattle, helping the team go on a run that ended with a Super Bowl victory.

While Shaheed’s contributions as a returner were enough to justify the trade and to ultimately re-sign him, everyone knows there’s another level for him to take his game as a receiver. With the Seahawks getting rolling in training camp, Shaheed is making that leap for Seattle’s offense.

It’s, obviously, still early, but the veteran wideout reportedly has a noticeable chemistry with quarterback Sam Darnold.

The quarterback and wideout have been consistently connecting during the first couple of training camp practices, giving reason to believe that Shaheed will be a much bigger contributor on offense this season. This comes after an offseason where Darnold and the receiver got plenty of work together, and Shaheed reportedly had a big spring.

Last year, Shaheed played nine regular season games with the Seahawks. In those games, he caught 15 passes for 188 yards. In the postseason, he only had three receptions for 78 yards.

Of course, the Seahawks aren’t hurting for wide receiver help, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba leading the league with 1,793 receiving yards last season, but a more productive Shaheed would take the offense to another level. Additionally, he has already shown that he has more to give as a receiver.

During his time with the New Orleans Saints, Shaheed carved out a role as an explosive WR2. His most productive season came in 2023, when he caught 46 passes for 719 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games. However, the best Shaheed looked as a receiver was in 2024, under Klint Kubiak, catching 20 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns in just six games.

Of course, Kubiak is now with the Las Vegas Raiders, but Shaheed is still in Seattle and he has his sights set on a bigger offensive role. The veteran wideout is off to a great start in training camp, and if he keeps it up, the Seahawks could be an even better team in 2026.
