The Seattle Seahawks let their star running back walk away in free agency, and that decision might not have been the wisest. Kenneth Walker III is thriving, and new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury hasn't been able to establish the run. Sam Darnold is struggling, and that hasn't helped his case.
While some of that has been on the offensive line, personnel hasn't done much to help. Through six games, the Seahawks rank 24th in success rate on the ground (37.7 percent) and 29th in rush EPA/play (-0.185), according to Hawks Blogger.
With Zach Charbonnet still working his way back and Jadarian Price on Injured Reserve (IR), perhaps the answer isn't in the building. Considering that, let's take a look at three trade candidates they should have on their radar.
3 veteran running backs the Seattle Seahawks should consider trading for
Kenneth Gainwell
Kenneth Gainwell is signed through the 2027 season, but he's stuck behind the more explosive Bucky Irving. He's a serviceable veteran and a dual-threat kind of guy who could also help in the passing game, given George Holani's ball-security issues.
Gainwell has made a living in the league in short-yardage situations, but he's also a well-known pass-protector and third-down specialist. He's barely played this season, but he could give this offense some juice. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers not going anywhere this season, they might be more than willing to part ways with a veteran.
Najee Harris
The Seahawks hosted Najee Harris for a visit late in the offseason before he ultimately signed with the New York Giants. He's now leaped past second-year running back Cam Skattebo, but the Giants might also reconsider his role if someone comes knocking with the right opportunity.
Harris has never been an efficient ball-carrier, and he's failed to live up to the sky-high buzz that surrounded him coming out of Alabama. That said, he's one of the most durable and physical guys out there. He's a bruiser, a true workhorse, and someone who can help this team get those elusive yards on third-and-short.
Tony Pollard
Tony Pollard will most likely draw most of the attention in the running back trade market this season. He's someone who has already shown that he can be a workhorse back, and he's shifty and has been efficient in limited space.
The Tennessee Titans will be lucky to win three games this season, and there's no point in holding onto one of their most valuable trade assets. While not Kenneth Walker, he's also a home run-hitting, explosive guy who can turn the corner in the blink of an eye, and he might be the most similar player they can find on the trade market right now.
