Richard Sherman just proved something Seahawks fans always believed

Back and back again.

Richard Sherman is one of the better defensive backs to ever play for the Seattle Seahawks, and while he would visit Seattle training camp after he retired, he keeps proving that link wasn't just due to former head coach Pete Carroll.

The team moved on from Carroll after the 2023 season, of course, and things have turned out pretty well. Under new head coach Mike Macdonald, the team won the Super Bowl.

Sherman, however, has proven his real connection is to the city that he still lives near and the franchise itself. After all, the former cornerback stays around the VMAC quite a bit, including being at rookie minicamp on Friday.

Maybe he was there to help build his podcast brand and interview players and coaches. That could certainly be one aspect of his visit, but what undermines that theory is that there Sherman was on the practice field wearing a Seahawks cap. Sometimes when a player leaves, they don't truly go away.

Thankfully, Sherman hasn't done that with Seattle. He might have played for NFC West rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, after he last played for the Seahawks, but that was but a short blip. Overall, he has remained true to the team that drafted him in 2011.

Recent Seattle draft picks noted Sherman's presence. Second-round pick Bud Clark, who plays safety but has the same ball-hawking skills that Sherman did as a player, raved about being around the Seattle legend.

Clark said, "I looked up to him since I was a kid, that's crazy. I was about to ask for a picture and all, but I'm like, 'Nah, I can't do it. I'm a Seahawk now. I can't do it."

The team posted this on X, to which Sherman responded simply, "Respect."

Still, the reality of just how great a player Richard Sherman was for the Seattle Seahawks was clear. A high-round draft selection was somewhat in awe of the CB being nearby. That is true respect. And while Sherman doesn't appear to be on the verge of becoming a coach, no doubt he is more than happy to deliver a few helpful hints to Seattle's rookies.

Plus, the icon is busy creating great broadcasts and being an on-air personality ahead of Amazon Prime games. He has a different career now. Part of him will never leave the Seahawks, though.
