Not many people seem to be giving the Seattle Seahawks their flowers. Mike Macdonald's team was utterly dominant in 2025, building on a double-digit-win first season by going all the way to the final game of the campaign.
Now, the Seahawks get the honor of kicking off the 2026 season with a Super Bowl LX rematch with the New England Patriots, and things weren't pretty for Mike Vrabel's team in their last encounter. A lot has transpired since then, but the Seahawks have retained most of their championship-winning core.
That's why, unlike other analysts, former Seahawks star Richard Sherman loves their chances of winning back-to-back. In the latest edition of his podcast, the legendary cornerback gave the Seahawks their flowers ahead of Week 1.

“If Sam Darnold plays at the level that he did during the playoffs last season, they’re going to be a tough outfit to beat,” Sherman said. “They haven’t lost a game since they lost that game to the Rams where they turned it over four times, he had four interceptions, and even then they lost because the field goal fell a few yards short. So you think about that and you think, hey man, the last time they were beat, it was a game where they still technically could’ve won.”
Despite being the defending champions, some continue to nitpick and sleep on this team. Sam Darnold — Super Bowl champion Sam Darnold, may I say, still doesn't get enough credit, and everyone seems to be fixated on the big moves the Los Angeles Rams completed this offseason.
However, Sherman has a valid point. It's been a long while since they last lost a game, and even then, they could've escaped with a narrow win. So, with the defense only getting better and having most of the starters back, why can't they aim for the big prize again?
Granted, losing reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III can be a big blow, and they still don't know what they have in their hands with Jadarian Price, who didn't suit up for the preseason. Still, continuity matters, and most of their core guys are about to return.
Winning consecutive Super Bowls is extremely challenging, and going so deep in consecutive seasons can be physically taxing. There's a reason only a handful of teams have done so — or even come close.
Notably, Sherman knows what it takes to go the distance twice. He was an infamous Pete Carroll call away from winning consecutive rings in 2014 and 2015. So, as much as he might be biased because of his obvious ties to the organization, it takes a champion and a member of a special team to know another.
Of course, every season is a different story, and just because they're still a juggernaut doesn't mean they can afford to look down on any of their opponents. They have a massive target on their backs; everyone's aiming for their crown.
But with a bright defensive mind keeping quarterbacks guessing, the defending Offensive Player of the Year, a stacked pass-rushing unit, and a group of guys who have already been there and done that, the Seahawks look even stronger than they did before winning it all last season.
