Richard Sherman has surprise role at 2025 NFL Draft for the Seahawks

But how?

The 2025 NFL Draft will be held from April 24 to 26. This means we are just days away from the Seattle Seahawks reshaping their roster. Not only will Seattle add 10 players (at least, based on the number of choices Seattle currently has in the draft, but things could change), but veterans already on the roster might be made nervous by the moves.

Seattle must address its interior offensive line woes. Expecting general manager John Schneider to take a guard or center in the first round is expecting too much. The hope is that Schneider takes a guard in the second round. That player might become an immediate starter in 2025.

Former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman will play a part in the team's draft as well. Sort of. Sherman does not work for the team. He is too busy with other projects, such as his fantastic eponymously-named podcast. (If you have not listened, you should.)

But the Seahawks legend will join another Seattle legend in announcing two of the team's draft picks. Every year, the NFL invites former players and celebrities to announce specific selections. In 2025, these will happen in the second and third rounds. Sherman will name one of those choices while running back Shaun Alexander will name another.

This is according to USA Today. The official NFL website does not have Sherman listed as a guest picker. The NFL site does name Alexander, though.

The Seahawks drafted both players. Alexander was taken in 2000 and became the full-time RB1 in 2001. In 2005, he was the league's MVP after running for 1,880 yards and scoring 28 total touchdowns. At the time, that was an NFL record. He hasn't been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame yet, though.

Neither has Sherman yet, but he will be available for induction in 2026. The question about him won't be if he was one of the best cornerbacks in the league, but how long he was. Between 2012 and 2014, he was named a First-Team All-Pro, and in 2015, he was named a Second-Team All-Pro. He only made one of those teams once more over the next five years of his career, though.

As to how Alexander and Sherman will each approach making the draft pick announcements is anyone's guess. Alexander's will probably be more straightforward. Sherman's could go off the proverbial rails a bit, and that would be amazingly enjoyable.
