The Seattle Seahawks might have two cornerbacks to replace in free agency this offseason. One of their replacements could come in the 2026 NFL draft in the person of Brandon Cisse, and his connection with Seattle's Nick Emmanwori is important.
Cisse is a South Carolina product who never played with Emmanwori in college (Cisse began his career at North Carolina State), but did play together before college. They are friends, according to Cisse, and the Seahawks like a team that gets along on and off the field. Connection is a key piece of the team's success.
The South Carolina cornerback confirmed while speaking with the media at the NFL Scouting Combine that he has stayed in touch with one of Seattle's great young defensive back. He also said he already understands Macdonald's defense a bit.
Brandon Cisse could be the Seattle Seahawks answer if Riq Woolen leaves in free agency
Cisse said, "I actually played seven-on-seven with Nick (Emmanwori) in high school. I was at the NFC Championship when they played the Rams. It was one of the best environments I’ve seen in a long time. I've seen the Seahawks, and I study their defense...I talked to (Emmanwori) a few days ago. We keep in contact. He's a good friend of mine."
Nick Emmanwori, of course, is likely to be a key piece of Mike Macdonald's defense for many years to come. He can play any position in the defensive backfield, and could likely play a bit of linebacker and edge rusher, if needed. He played more like a veteran than a rookie in 2025 and should only get better.
What also helps a defense be successful is clear and concise communication among players. The link between Emmanwori and Cisse would be an important one, as they already understand what each can do on the field.
While ultimately meaningless in terms of what might really happen, several mock drafts have projected Brandon Cisse to the Seahawks at pick No. 32, the final selection in the first round. His attitude might be refreshing compared to the more mercurial Riq Woolen. Woolem might be able to cash in during free agency, but that doesn't need to be with Seattle.
Cisse isn't as big as Woolen, but he is probably more willing in terms of playing good run support. In each of the past two seasons, he has had 13 run stuffs, meaning he isn't afraid to play close to the line of scrimmage and stick his nose into the action. It is unlikely that Nick Emmanwori would be pleased with him if he didn't.
