Teammates no longer—Jadarian Price and Jeremiyah Love are on opposite sides of the field this time around when the Seattle Seahawks take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. For the Cardinals, it's a game where they're hoping to repeat the success they found in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
For the Seahawks, a 2-0 start to the season is the goal, and a lesser opponent presents that opportunity. That said, the Cardinals just bested a good team in the Chargers, so sleeping on them would be a mistake. This isn't the type of mistake a Mike Macdonald-led football team falls victim to, though.
In this NFC West division battle, another battle will unfold from within between two former college teammates. Both players were selected as the first two running backs in this summer's NFL Draft. Both players also carried a lot of offseason hype into the regular season. The question is: which rusher will get the better of the other? Jadarian Price or Jeremiyah Love?
Who wins the Jadarian Price-Jeremiyah Love Bowl?
Not long ago, Love and Price were running backs No. 1 and No. 2 for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The former teammates played together for three seasons before going third and 32nd overall in this year's draft. Love went to the Cardinals to help start the franchise's rebuild, and Price went to the Seahawks to replace Kenneth Walker III.
Price was projected to have a better rookie year because of the Seahawks factor—they're the better team by a long shot, and better run organizationally than the Cardinals, also by a long shot. Therefore, Love was projected to have a slow start.
In their first two games, Price bested Love in rushing yards, but Love was the only one to record a touchdown. Both the Seahawks and Cardinals notched wins, but one will suffer its first loss of the season this weekend.
So, who will have the better Week 2 game? Both Price and Love may show out. It's also possible that the Seahawks defense pins down the Cardinals offense, including Love and the run game. It should be a surprise if Love goes from the 41 yards he recorded against the Chargers to 100 yards or more against the Seahawks.
Price, meanwhile, has an open window to notch his first 100-yard game in his very young NFL career. With Drew Lock at quarterback for Sam Darnold, Seattle's offense will likely lean more on the run game, giving Price a long runway.
At the end of the day, as long as the Seahawks don't fall in an upset, Price and the offense should have no trouble getting going. This Sunday should belong to Price, while Love, unfortunately, falls victim to a Cardinals offense that comes back down to earth.
